There’s a number of recent articles I’ve read on the topic of Instagram marketing by digital marketers. While they have a lot of valid points, they go down in valuation when they make statements like “anymore than 10-15 hashtags is kinda spammy”.
Imagine if you will an instagram account that has say 5,000 followers and you are recently hired to be the Instagram marketer for XYZ company to “organically and naturally” increase followers and nurture them into prospective customers and buyers of the products and/or services XYZ offers.
You report to XYZ’s Marketing Director at the end of the first month and the organic number of followers shows only a 5% improvement in growth, but the companies in-house administrator, who was part time on Instagram before you were hired, had an 8% growth in the prior month.
The Marketing Director asks why you achieved less. You come up with the excuse that it takes time to get familiar with the XYZ brand and you’ve been ensuring that the quality of the followers and content is far greater than the prior month.
XYZ’s Director says to you well no, that’s not the case. I’ve reviewed your analytics and compared to prior month we were using on average 28 relevant hashtags per post and you’ve averaged 12. In other words, you’ve reduced our “keyword penetration” by nearly 60% and that has impacted the organic reach. Can you explain?
Yeah, it’s kinda spammy.
